The history of the running shoe is a little more than 200 years old, but it wasn't until 1920 that the technologies and advances began to come together to make modern running shoes. advances in bonding rubber to fabric, heel counters, EVA, and duel density midsoles have all come together to make running shoes what they are today.

Join us in welcoming Stan Hockerson who has had first-hand knowledge about the inner workings of the shoe industry at a time when shoes were undergoing major changes. Stan will discuss the history and innovations of running shoes. He will also discuss the patents that have made shoes what they are today.

Bio:

Stan ran for and graduated from Petaluma high. High School mile 4:28 mile. Held three Santa Rosa Jc records in track steeple, decathlon and 4 x mile relay. Three time all conference at cal poly, steeple, 1500m and x country. Worked with Bill Trembo and Tom Fitchie at Sports-A-Foot and was owner from 1984-89. Stan has 67 licenses in the athletic shoe industry more then anyone else. Invented the cross training shoes, patent used in the Nike free, Mizuno wave and pearl izumi sycro frame patent. Help invent the knotty boy shoe lace and owns two orthotic companies that are about to be sold to Under Armour. Worked for Brooks, pearl Izumi, Mizuno, spira.
